ShenZhen09 Day6: One Day Trip @ 深圳东部华侨城 + Dinner @ Blue&White

Continue from ShenZhen09 Day 5: 东门 Street Food + 静颐茶馆

Due to the outbreak of H1N1 that happened in April 09, I wasn’t really able to travel to the north during my trip. Sis didn’t want to disappoint me and signed us up for a day trip at Shen Zhen 东部华侨城 – a newly established tourism spot. If you are travelling to ShenZhen, you can void the Window of world, Culture centre… but never miss out this new tourism spot.

Shen Zhen 东部华侨城 has 3 major themes: the Knight Valley (大峡谷), Tea Stream Valley (茶溪谷)and Wind Valley(云海谷). And… there is a huge Status of Guanyin Sitting in a Lotus Throne in this theme

Knight Valley (大峡谷) possesses the feature of Eco Park and theme park. It has 8 main areas namely Firth Forest (峡湾森林), Wine Town, Central Hub, Discovery Adventure, Earth Core’s Adventure, Future Adventure, Ocean Adventure and Peak Tribe in the Cloud (云海高地).

Tea Stream Valley includes 4 zones namely Interlaken Town (茵特拉根小镇), Tea Ancient Town (茶翁古镇), Sanzhou Tea Garden (三洲茶园), and Wetland Garden (湿地花园)

If you think you cannot cover all the hot spots in one day, you can always stay overnight at the resort hotels in Interlaken Town. Besides that, you can always pamper yourself a session of beauty spa available.

Click here for more details on this newly established tourism spot - Chinese here and English here.

day 62

After walking pass the entrance, you can opt to walk over the ‘bamboo forest’- staircase or opt for the man made escalators to reach the top. Since we chose to walk, I do not have any photos on the long manmade escalators to the man made waterfall. It was a bad weather on my visit to this tourism spot. The weather was freezing cold; it was raining and I was drenched from top to toe throughout the day. It was summer at that time but I had to wear long sleeve tee, sis was on cardigan and we both were on scarves. Add on the umbrellas with us. Huuuuh…

Here, I wish to share up some photos on the trip I had.

Finally, you can opt for rice or porridge. You can eat as much as you can as refills are FOC

ShenZhen09 Day 5: 东门 Street Food + 静颐茶馆

Continue from: ShenZhen09 Day 4 Dinner: 正一味 @ Coco Park

Dong Men 东门 is a fashion hub. There are rows of shops selling fashionable and stylish clothes, apparels, shoes; huge department stores and a wholesale market. In the wholesale market, you can find stuff with the price ranging from very very cheap, very cheap, cheap, moderately cheap, reasonable, slightly expensive… of course, in the wholesale market, you will have to clear your throat and louder up your voice to bargain!

Sis and I had nothing to do on the Day 5 of my trip. She brought me here for a small shopping and to try out their street food. I always love street food. To get to Dong Men, take the subway to Lao Jie 老街 and kindly follow the sign : Dong Men 东门.

So, what are foods on the Street Food List?!

IMG_8928

TakoYaki :)

IMG_8930

烤羊肉串 the soft and tender lamb stick sprinkled with the fragrant mixed chilli powder. (this is the fried and grilled version instead of grilled alone)

IMG_8934

Fish balls

IMG_8935

ToFu
.

IMG_8932

And people’s fave : 重庆酸辣粉 hot and spicy noodles.

IMG_8931

The people just love this. I noticed, everyone was having a bowl of noodles in their hand. Some even stood by the roadside and slurping the noodles. The QQ texture noodles were covered with thick chilies oil. You can opt for different level of spiciness. The QQ noodles are good but I don’t really like the thick layer of chilies oil.

As for dinner, we took about half an hour walk to this vegetarian restaurant 静颐茶馆. Here, is a place for you to sit down and relax; a place for sipping aromatic Chinese Tea; and also a place to enjoy the vegetarian cuisine.

I heart this place a lot. The ingredients they used are so unlike the vegetarian food in Malaysia. They use mostly fresh Vege, different kind of mushroom to create the mouth watering dishes

IMG_8937

The aromatic Gua-Zi 茶瓜子, pre-stir-fried with Tea Leaves.

IMG_8938

松仁南瓜蓉 pumpkin soup with pine nuts. The thick and yummy-licious one.

IMG_8939

Some kind of mushroom stir fried with celery, carrots and capsicum.

IMG_8943

Soup.

IMG_8944

Light but fresh

IMG_8946

And my favourite 芝士番薯 baked sweet potatoes with cheese. Huulala Huuuulalala. The sweet potatoes were sweet, fragrant and irresistible. How nice if I could have this now.

Photos are not allowed in this vegetarian restaurant. The décors around this dining area fulfill the ‘Zen’ style. We spoke to the manager before photo taking and she allowed me to snap on food only.

ShenZhen09 Day 4 Dinner: 正一味 @ Coco Park

Continue from ShenZhen09 Day 4 Lunch: 缪氏川菜

Dinner time!!! It’s a Korean meal this round. I know it is weird to have Korean food in China. But sis insisted what to do?!

We chose a Korean Restaurant which is located in a complex called Coco Park (if you are taking Metro, just stop by at 购物公园站 Gou-Wu-Gong-Yuan Station). This is quite a new complex with lots of young fashion namely Esprite, Only, Arnold Parmer, Nike, Adidas and many more; and a huge Jusco Supermarket; and a grand and classy Cinema theatre called Broadway Cinema 百老汇电影院.

We had our dinner earlier so that Sis and I were on time for a movie, Wolverine. Movie in this Broadway cinema is quite expensive, priced at RMB 80 per seat per person (about RM 40+ - normal seat). Expensive, right?! But the seats, the sounds system, the screen… everything are perfect :)

Back to this Korean Restaurant, 正一味 was crowded once dusk arrived.

The Kimchi soup appeared in a super large and generous portion. It was indeed appetizing and tasted sourish. The soup was loaded with kimchi and tofu. It was served in the real hig stone bowl to keep the soup warm throughout your dinner.

We shared the Bibimbap. It came with a variety of vegetables, meat and the Korean chili paste.
.

Mix well to create the perfect taste. Yum. It tasted just like the bibimbap I tried before in those Korean restaurants in KL.

I find that the people in China can really eat. Most of the tables were full with rice and vegetables. I’d noticed, even a table for 2 (a couple), they could actually have a kimchi soup and 2 bibimbap (one each). They can really eat! Besides, the food here is seriously cheap and extremely large in portion. For Kimchi Soup, Bibimbap and 2 cups of Tea were only less than RMB 45.

Movie after dinner. Yay ^^

Sweet But Healthy

It’s Time for something sweet but healthy.

This is actually a fruit that is not found in Malaysia. The fruit is available in China and it is known as 香瓜. How should I translate, fragrant fruit? I used the translator to translate it and it stated ‘muskmelon’. After running through Wikipedia, I found nothing from the muskmelon list that is similar to this fragrant fruit.

It tastes quite similar to the honeydew and looks kinda the same as honeydew. However, it is not honeydew. It is about the size of huge Fuji Apples or a little bigger than Fuji Apples. fragrant and very sweet. Available at all seasons in China but those produced during the summer is tastier.

ShenZhen09 Day 3 Brunch: Dim Sum @ 广食访

Continue from ShenZhen09 Day 2 Dinner: 面点王@Book City

.
On the third day of my stay, finally get to have dim sum. I have been craving for dim sum since the weeks and the months before coming to Shen Zhen. This dim sum place is quite far away from where housing area I stayed. Sis and I walked for about 30 mins to this restaurant called 广食访。Sorry for no pics on this building as it was raining cat and dog all day. I wasn’t able to capture photos with umbrella and handbags on.

This place was quite a full house even though it was already 12 noon. I learnt that a lot of people travelled from Hong Kong to Shen Zhen during the weekend --- to shop, to dine, to Yum Cha and even buying vege and stuff from the market! Sis said it is super convenient for them to travel up by the metro --- pass border, buy tickets, step into the metro and zooooom. And reach within 30 mins.

Back to 广食访, the service was rather slow and bad. Not enough staff and too many customers I guess. Do hope they will improve.

The Portuguese egg tarts that served were silky smooth in the egg centre and the puff pastry shells were crispy. Oh yum, I had not have such a good Portuguese’s egg tarts. Please don’t mention those from the kings, gonna delete it from my list. Of course, this is still not the best Portuguese egg tarts I had in Shen Zhen. There is another one I wish to intro on my next post which can simply melts ones heart.

糯米鸡 glutinous rice that served piping hot. They were wrapped with the big piece of lotus leaves before sending off to steam. The glutinous rice was real soft and filled with the scent of lotus leaves.

A bowl of hot porridge that warm my tummy in this cold weather. Speaking of weather, the weather was unstable although it was already summer. Cold and rainy all day. Sigh… which was quite inconvenient for sightseeing

Stirred fried Lo Bak Gou in XO sauce which was full with wok hei. Hmmm, I still find the one from canton-i is the best.

韭菜饺 Jiu-Cai-Jiao which is another must-order item. It was actually the dumplings that very much similar to the Japanese Gyoza. Difference: the centre core which was filled up with plentiful of leek and minced meat in Jiu-Cai-Jiao and wrapped up prettily into the shape required.

Last but not least, a plate of vege --- the required fibres for body.
