Happy Dragon Boat Festival

It is dragon boat festival again! Sadly, this year I am not able to celebrate this festival with my family. Thanks to the blogger. I can pre-schedule this post and let it to be published on the right time.

Mum will never disappoint me; she has made me some Crystal Zong Zi 水晶粽 and pre celebrate this festival with me before I am heading for my trip. Don’t have ‘ba chang’ this time; but I do have this crystal zong zi.

They are Soft and chewy. Though mum put in quite an amount of lye water, I don’t feel they are strong with lye water and alkaline taste. These Crystal Zong Zi are best compatible with the handmade kaya by mum. The Kaya is thick with the egg yolks and strong aroma of fresh blended and concentrated pandan juice.

This year, mum is not going to make any ba chang. Firstly, dad and bro don’t like glutinous rice. Secondly, I am away. No one is going to finish her ba chang without me as the family's DBKL. Next, youngest bro is on his orthodontic braces where he is prohibited from taking chewy food. And finally, mum said making ba chang requires lots of hard work in processing from the raw material to the final product. Well, she has promised to make the Nyonya Zong Zi :)

Happy Celebration! ~

Shen Zhen, Here I Come

When you are reading this, I am already up on the plane, flying myself to Shen Zhen, China. It is going to be an exciting 10 days trip with good food and shopping and sightseeing. Just hope that I won’t gain weight after these 10 days. It was a nightmare that I gained 4kg after that 20 days trip in Shen Zhen few years back. I took a real hard time to loss those weights.

Carrying with me, I have prepared Sis her favourite home baked cookies (to be carried up to the plane in the woven red bag). Me and mum have used up 2 afternoons to bake them. And another half of the luggage is the stuff she wants.

Am I staying only in Shen Zhen?! Hmmm, not too sure. Sis will arrange everything for me. What I need to do is…… don’t do anything. :P

Have a nice weekend! ~
Do drop by for the food reviews. see you in June ^__^

Restaurant Kam Hin 锦选港式特级点心

Dim Sum is always one of the favourites among the Chinese. They love to have it as early breakfast, or brunch or lunch and the minority loves to have it as afternoon tea.

Recently, I discovered a nice place for dim sum. Well, not exactly I discovered it by myself but Sugar Bean brought me over there. Sugar Bean told me, they do not know about this place as well, not until someone recommend them.

Kam Hin Restaurant is located facing the main road. However, you can hardly notice it. Their business is doing really well. They even have branches in PJ and UpTown Damansara too.

A clean pleasant environment

On dim sum, we had

Shrimp dumplings (Har Gao) 顶好虾饺皇.

I find that the crystal skin is rather thick but look! A whole prawn with a little minced meat is the core.

Siu-Mai 一级烧卖

BBQ Pork Rice Roll 叉烧蒸肠粉

Fried Wu Kok which is fried into golden brown never turn us down. The outer yam is crunchy while the inner is full with flavourful and juicy BBQ pork.

Fried Dumplings (Salad-Har)

They do serve quite a variety of dim sum including porridge, fish balls… … etc. we had only these because we had a second round after the dim sum.

Auntie Anne’s Pretzel

I had only 4 hours sleep last night. 2-continuous-nights of burning mid night oil make me older for about 5 years. Argh… I aged!!! I need instant remedy --- hibernate with extra eye gel to soothe the dark panda eyes and boost the eyes’ blood circulation.

Before hibernating, gonna make a short post here.

This is it, my all time favourite --- Auntie Anne’s chocolate mint pretzel.

The pretzel’s dough is chewy and the mixture of chocolate and mint is at the right sugary taste, that’s too good in the cool afternoon. Heard my friend said they have green tea flavour, gonna try it next time.

When mum is back from BKK

Yay, she is back and brought us some goodies.

Coconut toffee is the best candy I have ever had. This is a must to buy if you travelled to Bangkok. I have tried a few different brands with the almost the same packaging (difference only in the colour paper they used and the brands). So far, this is the greatest of all. Every tiny piece of it is full with coconut essence! Yum!

Another things --- crispy cuttlefish. It’s so crunchy~
