Pao Xiang Bak Kiut Teh 宝香绑线肉骨茶 @ Taman Connaught, Cheras

Pao Xiang Bak Kut Teh  宝香绑线肉骨茶; Famous for its string tied meat is now in Taman Connaught.

Business is seriously good; the meaty portions are always selling fast. There were a few times (during weekends) my parents and I tried our luck (at about 1.30pm), sadly, we always never get to try them out. the meaty portions were sold out at those times.

and so, this time we were there in the morning, 10am; surprisingly, the place was crowded and we had to wait for table.

The pot was rather small with the candle lit up underneath to maintain the warm temperature of the soup and pork. The pork or meaty slices were squeezed in the small pot and left not much space for the soup.

"The meat is cleaned of fat and blood and was tired with string before cooking. This has reduced the fat in the meat and to ensure the integrity and chewiness of meat yet retaining its juiciness and tender texture while making it absorbs much essences of their secret recipe herbal soup."

Verdict:
I love the stickiness and collagen-ous-liked texture in the soup.

However, the complain: there wasn't enough soup for me. And the volume of soup in these small pots were never enough to feed 5 of us.
I am not too sure if soup refill is allowed (FOC-ly or chargeable).
Sui Kut Tang ki(s) and Sui Kut are roughly the same.
and, the waiter seems to pushing us out by collecting the utensils and cleaning our table (without asking for permission to do so) while we were still sipping our tea!!!

Mbuji Cafe @ Sunway Giza, Kota Damansara

Dear Coffee Lovers,

I found you guys a place for cuppa of fine graded coffee at a reasonable price.

DSC_4312

Mbuji Cafe is its name.
A very comfy coffee shop situated in Sunway Giza Shopping Mall, Kota Damansara

DSC_4308-1

Mbuji, a very special name it is. Pronounced as "Boo-ji".
Derived from a rock in Tanzania; A natural monument to the natives where the natives would worship and share their offerings to this stone.

It is sad to hear that the coffee growers/ natives at Tanzania have an average life span of about 35 years. Why??? That's because of malaria... and this place is flooded by poverty :(

DSC_4307-1

and so, Mbuji Cafe gets their coffee bean supplies straight from the natives in Tanzania, guaranteeing a direct trading (no middle man in between) and the sales to are directed to the coffee growers. and the money from the coffee helps the local natives in many way - food, education, medication, daily needs and other utilities.

Causeway Bay Spicy Crab @ Desa Sri Hartamas

Typhoon Shelter Crab 避风塘辣蟹 is something we can only see from TVB dramas or HK movies; we can only drool in front of the TV...

or we can head to Causeway Bay for it?!

but... Causeway Bay is located in Hong Kong...  :(

***

Good news is that right now, we can find Causeway Bay Spicy Crab 铜锣湾辣蟹莊 here in Desa Sri Hartamas. Hooray...

causeway bay

Glad that Causeway Bay Spicy Crab 铜锣湾辣蟹莊 (from HK) has chosen to open its door in KL. Thanks to Soo Ting and Eric for a wonderful lunch over. It was a great dining experience at Causeway Bay Spicy Crab. We got to try a few lip smacking dishes as well as the famous crab dishes from HK.

Authentic HK Garlic & Chili Crab 正宗避风塘辣蟹 (RM 68)
The crabs hidden in lots of deep fried garlic that blended well with the scallion and red chilies. You can always opt for the degree of spiciness you prefer - mild, moderate, spicy or very spicy. We had the medium spiciness for our crab. huuuulala, it was really fragrantly hot and spicy!

Baked Crab with Salted Egg Yolk 流沙黄金蟹 (RM 68)
A different version of baked crab with salted egg yolk as compared to what we used to have (the wetter salted egg yolk version). This one from Causeway Bay Spicy Crab is loaded with crunchy salted egg yolk globules. I love munching the rice bubble-liked globules that infufsed with strong salted egg yolk taste.

Benkay Japanese Restaurant @ Nikko Hotel KL

I made sushi rolls and temaki, sometimes, for my family. However, those I made were not up to the standard and not as pretty as those from the restaurant (but still edible).

nikko japanese6

These are the best looking one i have made. The others were either too much rice or the fillings/ingredients were squeezed out.

***

Many Thanks to the team from Nikko Hotel KL; for giving me an opportunity to attend this cooking and demo session conducted by Chef Tetsuya Yanagida.

Half Price Dim Sum @ Cheers Palace, Cheras

I discovered another great place to go for dim sum, which is just 3 minutes drive way from my house; serving yummy dim sum and best of all, the dim sum(s) (steamed and stir fried/fried items only) are half price during weekdays lunch hours!!!

Cheers Palace - located next to Cheras Autocity; was previously known as Unique Fisherman Seafood Restaurant has now become my favourite place for lunch. Besides dim sum, there are quite a number of dishes such as various noodles, fried rice, veges, tofu, fish... on the lunch promotion menu. The good thing is, the price; the items on the menu are priced from RM 8 onwards!!!

DSC_3670

Steamed Siew Mai (n/p: RM 6.80) - a must-order item whenever you are in any dim sum place. this restaurant serves good siew mai. The size for the siew mai(s) was big and the minced pork in it was very flavourful

Deep Fried Bean Curd with Prawn Roll (n/p: RM 6.80) - huge prawns wrapped up with the fu chok. love this with mayonnaise :)

DSC_3648

We ordered half of the Peking Duck. (RM 20 - the promotion price). The crispy duck skin is made into rolls with additional of the spring onions and special sweet sauce.

DSC_3681

as for the duck meats, it will go with either fried rice or noodles (RM 20 - which is included in promotion item) . we opted for the noodles that came with real wok hei

***

Our bill came was about RM 65 in total (inclusive of tit bits and Chinese tea priced at RM 1.50 per head; and we duplicated a few orders on dim sum selection). it was really quite a deal to have their half price dim sum (50% off) which is only available during weekdays lunch hours. The size of the dim sum(s) is huge and they are good except for the steamed cheung fun which was not that silky smooth and warm enough. Service may not be as attentive as you think but then, all the food will be on your table very promptly.

Unable to make it during weekdays?
Nevermind as they are having weekends dim sum promotion too at 30% discount (from 9.30 in the morning till late noon if i am not mistaken). :)
