Who doesn't know this famous Hung Kee Wanton Mee located at Jalan Loke Yew?!
Established since mid of 1960s by the Phoon family from a small shoplot and now has expanded to air conditioned shoplots and a branch in Taman Shamelin Perkasa.
I frequent to their branch; say like once a week after grocery shopping nearby and ordered myself a plate of wanton mee. Hmmm, to be specific, that will be their noodles with char siu (BBQ pork) only (RM 4.50 per plate). You can always have their noodles with char siu and wanton (come in 6 pcs) but I never like their wanton(s) as the skin may be too thick to me.
Their wanton noodles are handmade; every strand is springy in texture and tossed in well seasoned sauce. Do opt for semi-fat char siu (半肥瘦叉烧) that comes fattier (this time the char siu was not fatty enough); I enjoyed chewing the fatty charred part that gave a sweet aftertaste.
Verdict: Their char siu may not be the best one you have had; but the yellow thin strands of springy noodles are something you will love. Another reason I love coming here is, I don't have to fight through the traffic and travel down to Jalan Loke Yew for a plate of wanton mee as we have one Hung Kee (their branch) in Cheras :)

There isn't many western cafe like this one around Cheras. What we normally find in Cheras is the economic style western corners that open during the night (eg. Taman Billion). While this - DIET Cafe opens all day long, from morning till late.
DIET Cafe is actually stands for "Do I Eat Today? Cafe". It has a casual and cozy ambiance and serves quality range of western and fusion dishes using fresh ingredients.
I was here with my siblings one Sunday. We are not the morning person; happy to find a cafe that serves all day breakfast on th weekend. But then, that was not a day for their breakkie; we were actually hunting for the Banger 'n' Mash and Chicken Parmigiana
Hangover (RM 8)
It was the combination of apple, lime and mint to reduce hangover. Something to wake you up :)
For nibble, we had the Crispy Beef Bacon and Cheese Rolls (RM 10)
Melted cheese on the crispy beef bacon!
Banger 'n' Mash (RM 19)
It was the premium chicken sausages served with homemade mashed potatoes and caramelized onion gravy. The chicken sausages were a lil' overcooked to me; the mashed potatoes were really good, with tiny bits of chunks in it and drenched with gravy that was on the sweet side.
Chicken Parmigiana (RM 26)
Grilled marinated chicken breast layered with melted cheddar cheese, eggplant, and homemade tomatoes sauce and served with spiced wedges and garden salad. The melted cheddar cheese gave an extra kick to the tender chicken breast.
'Old-Skool' Carbonara (Rm 20)
The classic style carbonara served with beef bacon and mushroom. Carbonara was made in a diluted way; but still creamy as usual. And this was quite a filling one.
Ahhh, we were all too full for desserts. A good reason for revisit :) hear that the fluffy pancake and the risotto are heavenly good.
Verdict: It may seem a little pricey for a meal in this area; but trust me; you will find yourself satisfy with the portion and the taste for western food in this area. ohhh, bear in mind that the parking is quite a headache one during working hours.

Pao Xiang Bak Kut Teh 宝香绑线肉骨茶; Famous for its string tied meat is now in Taman Connaught.
Business is seriously good; the meaty portions are always selling fast. There were a few times (during weekends) my parents and I tried our luck (at about 1.30pm), sadly, we always never get to try them out. the meaty portions were sold out at those times.
and so, this time we were there in the morning, 10am; surprisingly, the place was crowded and we had to wait for table.
Tea (RM 5)
We tried on these which are priced at RM 9.50 per pot.
Stomach 肚
Sui Kut Tang Ki(s) 小骨单枝
Sui Kut 小骨
Sum Chan Bah(s) 三辰肉
The pot was rather small with the candle lit up underneath to maintain the warm temperature of the soup and pork. The pork or meaty slices were squeezed in the small pot and left not much space for the soup.
"The meat is cleaned of fat and blood and was tired with string before cooking. This has reduced the fat in the meat and to ensure the integrity and chewiness of meat yet retaining its juiciness and tender texture while making it absorbs much essences of their secret recipe herbal soup."
Verdict:
I love the stickiness and collagen-ous-liked texture in the soup.
However, the complain: there wasn't enough soup for me. And the volume of soup in these small pots were never enough to feed 5 of us.
I am not too sure if soup refill is allowed (FOC-ly or chargeable).
Sui Kut Tang ki(s) and Sui Kut are roughly the same.
and, the waiter seems to pushing us out by collecting the utensils and cleaning our table (without asking for permission to do so) while we were still sipping our tea!!!

I discovered another great place to go for dim sum, which is just 3 minutes drive way from my house; serving yummy dim sum and best of all, the dim sum(s) (steamed and stir fried/fried items only) are half price during weekdays lunch hours!!!
Cheers Palace - located next to Cheras Autocity; was previously known as Unique Fisherman Seafood Restaurant has now become my favourite place for lunch. Besides dim sum, there are quite a number of dishes such as various noodles, fried rice, veges, tofu, fish... on the lunch promotion menu. The good thing is, the price; the items on the menu are priced from RM 8 onwards!!!
Steamed Siew Mai (n/p: RM 6.80) - a must-order item whenever you are in any dim sum place. this restaurant serves good siew mai. The size for the siew mai(s) was big and the minced pork in it was very flavourful
Szechuan Dumpling with Prawn (n/p: RM 4.20)
Steamed Prawn Dumpling (n/p: RM 6.80)
Steamed Cheung Fun with BBQ (n/p: RM 8.80)
Pan Fried Carrot Cake with XO Sauce (n/p: RM 7.00) - love its spiciness and it was real fragrant.
Deep Fried Banana and Redbean Pancake (n/p: RM 4.80) - ohh, love the lil sweet pancake. banana and red bean - quite a surprising combination .
Deep Fried Bean Curd with Prawn Roll (n/p: RM 6.80) - huge prawns wrapped up with the fu chok. love this with mayonnaise :)
We ordered half of the Peking Duck. (RM 20 - the promotion price). The crispy duck skin is made into rolls with additional of the spring onions and special sweet sauce.
as for the duck meats, it will go with either fried rice or noodles (RM 20 - which is included in promotion item) . we opted for the noodles that came with real wok hei.
***
Our bill came was about RM 65 in total (inclusive of tit bits and Chinese tea priced at RM 1.50 per head; and we duplicated a few orders on dim sum selection). it was really quite a deal to have their half price dim sum (50% off) which is only available during weekdays lunch hours. The size of the dim sum(s) is huge and they are good except for the steamed cheung fun which was not that silky smooth and warm enough. Service may not be as attentive as you think but then, all the food will be on your table very promptly.
Unable to make it during weekdays?
Nevermind as they are having weekends dim sum promotion too at 30% discount (from 9.30 in the morning till late noon if i am not mistaken). :)

My perfect bowl of XO Fish Head Noodles must always come with fried fish, tomatoes, preserved vegetables (ham choy), handful of chopped scallion and the most important things - the soupy rich broth that is not overly sour, not overly milky but rich in a hint of rice wine.
I am glad; this place is situated not far away from my house has my favourite bowl of XO Fish Head Noodles.
Kaki Bola, the name of this restaurant. ( sorry for the blur pic) am sure you are quite surprise with the name of this restaurant. Yep, that's it. You won't find any kaki bola around but their famous XO Fish Head Noodles.
The regular bowl is priced at RM 6.80 is very large that I hardly can finish it all alone. However, my mum and I love sharing a bowl of large serving which is priced at RM 9. the serving is just ngam for both our stomachs.
As I have described earlier, this is my perfect bowl of XO Fish Head Noodles - with fried fish, tomato slices, preserved vegetables (ham choy), a thicker than usual version of bee hoon, served in a soupy rich milky broth and finally the toss-in-chopped scallion.
Slurrrrpppppppp, we polished up everything, even the last drop of milky broth. Love the soupy broth a lot with a hint of rice wine.
besides XO Fish Head Noodles, their huat tan hor 滑蛋河 (RM 5.50) is another great stuff to try out.
Huat Tan Hor with real wok hei.
Okay, I feel sick of describing. I am very hungry now!!!
