Munakata Unlimited Ala Carte Japanese Buffet @ Jalan Sultan Ismail

IMG_2154

The bunch of us who love to eat, were tempted after reading Vkeong’s post on Munakata Unlimited Ala Carte Japanese Buffet. We decided a visit and made reservation. Glad that they placed us into a small cozy private room where we could relax and chit chat and laugh out loud inside. :P

IMG_2073

Munakata Japanese buffet is the authentic Japanese food, which means they serve purely Japanese food on their buffet menu. The buffet is priced at RM 60 + 10% service charge for adult and Rm 45 + 10% service charge for children.

The steal

IMG_2112

Salsom Sashimi – the one and only sashimi from the buffet menu. The sashimi was thick and fresh. This is definitely a great steal! And we had 27 servings (1 serving = 3 pieces) of sashimi alone. Yummm…

The yummy

IMG_2087

Unagi Kabayaki – juicy fat grilled Unagi in their special sweet saya sauce

IMG_2084

Gyu Saikoro Steak was tender and juicy. I can only drool over this

IMG_2092

Sake Teriyaki – grilled salmon coated with sweet soya sauce

IMG_2097

Kaki Furai – deep fried juicy Oysters.

IMG_2104

Yakitori – barbecued skewered chicken

IMG_2120

Enoki no Butter Yaki – the Enoki sautéed with butter = aromatic

IMG_2144

Shira Ebi Karaage – deep fried Japanese Glass Shrimp. Gimme a glass of beer!~

IMG_2147

Tori Tsukune Yaki – chicken meatballs

IMG_2089

Soft Shell Crab tempura – deep fried battered soft shell crab

IMG_2100

Hotate Butter Yaki – grilled fresh scallops with butter but they were over salty

The So-So

IMG_2136

Umagi Tamago is the grilled eel wrapped in cooked egg. This is ok for me as I like sweetened tamago.

IMG_2140

Tempura Moriawase – the batter was tooooooo thick and very oily. Batter was not that good but the prawns and veges were fresh

IMG_2126

Nigiri Sushi (Salmon). The vinegar-ed rice was dry and not vinegar-ed enough but I love the salmon slices alone.

IMG_2110

Furai Ika Ring – deep fried Squid Rings. The batter was thick and the squid rings were too chewy and rubbery.

IMG_2109

Wakame Salad. This was okay for me but lack of dressing

IMG_2098

Edamame

IMG_2107

Shishamo – Grilled Smelt Fish

The No-No…

munakata

Saba Shioyaki (grilled mackerel with salt) was made hard and dry. Age Shu Mai did not taste good too. As for the Ankake Age Dofu (deep fried bean curd with thick starchy sauce), it was unlike the age dofu we used to have from Rakuzen. Tori No Karagee (deep fried chicken) did not taste good. Finally, the desserts – matcha ice cream with Azuki red bean. @@ I nearly fainted after having a scoop. I have never tasted such a bad and as creamy as whipping cream matcha ice cream before. Thanks to citygal for help to finish that scoop of ice cream and washed down with lots of green tea.

Verdict: it is still a steal to have unlimited orders of fresh thick salmon sashimi with RM 60 ++. :)

When mum is out of town 2: Yaki-Yaki Japanese BBQ Buffet Restaurant

50% off! Excited e?!

We were super excited after reading this flyer and planned to dine in and try out their dinner. Right away, we called up for reservation. It was fully booked for the night but they do accept walk-ins. Hence, my family and I hurried down town in the evening to grab ourselves a table.

Yaki Yaki Japanese BBQ Buffet Restaurant is located in the heart of the golden triangle in Federal Bowl. In conjunction with their opening, they come up with this romotion: 50% discount on all buffet, lunch, hi tea, dinner and supper.
The promotion starts from 16 March and end on 30 April 2009.
Price (before discount): Lunch RM65++, Hi-Tea RM55++, Dinner RM75++, Supper RM65++

Inside yaki yaki Japanese BBQ Buffet Restaurant

Food wise, let’s have a look on what they served.

Tempura

Due to the pre prepared, they are all cold.
The batter for tempura-ed prawn is thick. All of these are not to my liking. but still have to finish up after taking em.

A variety of sauces for the BBQ-ed food

Besides those raw materials from the serving counter, you can also order others like: beef belly, lamb belly, scallops, unagi… from the menu. It is quite caring that they put up the required grilling time for each of them. But… never really depends on it. It is just the suggestion timing for the food to be cooked. You have to depend on the availability of charcoal and fire/flame as well.

Others from the serving bars/counters

Among all, the flavourful spaghetti and the chawan mushi are the best for that night.

Desserts: gelatomio.

I wondered if the freezer is working right.
On the left, the ice creams are very soft and moist. On the right, the ice creams are super hard for a single scoop.

Yaki-Yaki is mainly focused on the BBQ, that’s why they named as BBQ Buffet Restaurant. Be aware of the BBQ smell once u have finished your meal and stepped you feet out of this place.

Namely for Japanese BBQ, I don’t feel any Japanese-style in this place (besides the decoration, maybe). Most of their dishes are made to suit local people. The range is limited and I don’t quite like the raw material they served. The materials are not really fresh. Moreover the sizes for the material are small. My dad kept complaining that the oysters are very very small in size as compared to Jogoya or Tenji. What’s more I could say?! There is nothing to shout out about and there still lenity of rooooooomssss for improvement!
