Sweet But Healthy
It’s Time for something sweet but healthy.
It tastes quite similar to the honeydew and looks kinda the same as honeydew. However, it is not honeydew. It is about the size of huge Fuji Apples or a little bigger than Fuji Apples. fragrant and very sweet. Available at all seasons in China but those produced during the summer is tastier.

Beard Papa's @ Pavilion KL
Moooooooooooooooooooo…
The message tone rang right at mid night.
I got a message from Sugar Bean, at mid night, asked me to do them a favour. They were lucky as I was still in front of my laptop. I googled the location of Beard Papa in London, and even sent them the day’s flavour. Oh god… that sms was killing. They made me craved for Beard Papa’s Cream Puff at midnight!
Felt lucky as the next day afternoon I was in Pavilion KL.
Beard papa’s counter at food republic, Pavilion KL.
Freshly baked puff pastry
Green Tea Cream Puff. The puff is priced at RM 3.80 per piece. It is a little expensive but definitely a worth for the once a while ‘splurge’. Besides green tea flavour, they do have other flavours such as vanilla, chocolate, and black sesame. I wanted to try the black sesame but it was not on the day’s flavour.
Beard papa’s cream puff is the light and crunchy puff pastry. It is filled with their original custard and whipped cream blended with Premium Japanese Green Tea. Finally, it is sprinkled with green tea powder. I learnt that the choux pastry shells are made up of 2 layers. The inner layer is choux pastry shell while the outer later is piecrust.
That’s the combination of ‘crispy’ and ‘creamy’
They claim that the cream puffs contain no preservative and use only highest quality of ingredients to make those cream puffs. Hence, the puffs are best eaten immediately or refrigerate and consume the puffs within 24 hours.
Gladly, the Green Tea Cream Puff satisfied my craves.

ShenZhen09 Day 4 Lunch:缪氏川菜
Continue from ShenZhen09 Day 3 Dinner: Street Food + KFC Blueberry Egg Tarts
We had Sze Chuan Meal at 缪氏川菜 on my day 4 of visiting. Talking about Sze Chuan dishes, ones always think of red, orange, red chilies oil, chilies and dried chilies!!! Besides the hot and spicy, they do actually serve sourish food that can boost up your appetite.

缪氏川菜 is well decorated in that oldish way, giving you a real Chinese atmosphere and create a relaxing and enjoyable environment for dining. The wall is painted in red and lanterns are here and there, hanging from the ceiling.

It was super pack with OL and office staffs while we were there as it was lunch time.
Once seated, we were served with 2 appetizers

The dried sliced bean curd on the left and the radish pickles on the right.
The china they used is quite classy. I love the menu from this kind of restaurants. The menus they printed are thick and glossy as though the wedding photo albums.
川北凉粉 (cold dish) was the most appetizing of all. It was served in cold, loaded with some XO-liked sauce and chopped leeks.
藕丸 (sorry that I can’t remember the full name) were the finely chopped lotus roots and make into dough-liked with minced meat. Shape into balls, Fried and served with the sourish sauce. I think I had almost half the plate of this.
Cabbage was cooked in quite a different way. There were gei-zi(s) in it.
Finally here came the fish (can’t remember the name too). This was super large in portion where 3 of us (me, sis and friend) couldn’t really finish!
Look, how large the bowl is when compared with the normal size spoon?!
Fish slices were well prepared, cooked in a more salty and spicy way. Best with a bowl of rice.
Burrrp, it was super full and after that, we shopped in 西武 and 中心城市广场 which is just located nearby where we had our lunch.

A Wet Thai Café @ Taman Yulek
Bored with too much of Chinese Food from somewhere we couldn’t reach in minutes? Let’s have something else.
Thai Cuisine is always irresistible. Love the spiciness, love the sourish-ness, and love the aroma of the herbs they used in cooking… so, anyone dislikes Thai Cuisine?

This is somewhere I have visited for few times for the very authentic Thai Cuisine. A Wet Thai Café is quite easy to look for. It is located at Taman Segar a few shops next to Hau Kee Restaurant (guess no one doesn’t know the 4-shops-in-a-row Chinese restaurant).
Plain water?! Oh no, it’s not just plain sky juice but there is the strong fragrant of pandan leaves in this plain water.
Let’s start with the platter. The Platter came with Pandan Chicken, Fish Cake (top right), Kerabu Mango --- the mango salad and another type of fish cake?! (Sorry that I can’t recall the one at the bottom left in the pic)
We had another extra plate of Kerabu Mango. The sliced Mango was kinda sourish. Additional of chili that added the hint of spiciness and the variety of ingredients and sauces that tossed-in for its special taste.
This is the minced pork where you have to enclose them with the pieces of greens provided. It is A little salty but goes best with white Thai rice.
Pineapple Fried Rice is light and fluffy in texture and bountiful with pineapples and the crunchy cashew.
Pork Knuckles is one of the best selling dishes in the restaurant. It was crispy on the outside and the meat was tender and juicy. With the dipping sauce provided, it definitely gives you a big Ohhhmmm.
Thai Style Steam Fish. It was real Fresh! The steam fish was a little-look-alike the Teochew style where there were added salted vegetables.
Of course, a must not miss out --- Stirred Fried Petai and Prawn with Balacan.
This restaurant is well known for their BBQ as well. The barbequed fresh fish was too good that my family members done it right before photo capturing. Sorry, left only bone here.
Tom Yum Seafood Soup that appeared in orange-reddish was rather appetizing. It looked fiery but not that super hot as you think. It was spicy + sour + the freshness of seafood. However, the seafood portion was rather lesser than I taught. Well, it was still a good go. Besides this tom yum seafood soup, they do have another type of soup which is cooked and served in the coconut shell. I have tried it once and it was tempting but priced slightly higher.
The house’s self made Thai style chili sauce. It is compatible with every mouth watering Thai dish or even alone with white rice. Don’t get freak out with the green and blue spots in the Thai chili sauce. They were actually the reflection of the lights.
All the food is prepared in a very authentic Thai style and the price for each is quite reasonable.
Be early if you want to dine in here because the restaurant starts to get crowded after 7.30pm

ShenZhen09 Day 3 Dinner: Street Food + KFC Blueberry Egg Tarts
Continue from ShenZhen09 Day 3 Brunch: Dim Sum @ 广食访
It is always best to have street food as dinner when you are feeling still full after the lunch. Along our way to supermarket, there was a lot of street food.
Street Food 1: Chou Tofu aka ‘Stinky Tofu’
‘Stinky ToFu’ is quite similar to the cheese. The ToFu has been fermented for months to produce the overpowering pungent odour and taste; so do those old cheeses.
This is the vendor I used to visit since my last visit 2 years ago. He was still having his business at the same spot near 福民文具批发市场 Fu-Min Stationary Wholesale Centre. He was preparing my order. The ToFu were deep fried before dipping them into the soup-liked sauce and brushed with spicy sauce. After that, the ToFus were loaded with abundant of pickles and coriander.
If I am not mistaken, it was about 8 to 10 pieces of ToFu priced only at RMB 4.
I personally dislike coriander. But once it matched with this ToFu, they become a perfect match! Sluuurrrpp! The ToFus smelled great and tasted Yummy too. It was really irresistible and I returned for more the next few days.
Besides that, I must say, the stinky Tofu here is totally different (taste) from what we used to get from any Night Market in KL. I have tried the one from the famous night market in KL, Yucks. And definitely not as good as this one.
Street Food 2: Fish Ball @ 7-11
7-11, Seven-Eleven stores in Shen Zhen are unlike those in Malaysia. They have Curry Fish Balls, sausages, buns, meat balls…. a variety of choices.
Street Food 3: 烤羊肉串
This was the soft and tender roasted lamb stick. Sprinkled with the fragrant mixed chili powders gave you the acceptable spiciness. For a greater spicy level, just ask them to dust up more chili powders.

Remember I wrote in previous post that there is the perfect place selling Portuguese Egg Tarts?! Well, I am sure you can’t imagine why they have such wonderful yummylicious egg tarts but we don’t have it here!
The Famous Blueberry Portuguese Egg Tarts from KFC this season!!!
The hot piping egg custard centre in the crème-brulee-liked was silky smooth. The pastry shell was buttery and fragrant. Additional with a spoonful of blueberry gave its name --- Blueberry Portuguese Egg Tarts. Honestly speaking, this was the best Portuguese Egg Tarts I ever had. I had 3 in a row. The BEST the BEST the BEST!!! My friend, Jimmy who went to Shanghai last CNY got their Yam Egg Tarts. Since then, he kept promoting that China KFC’s egg tart is a Must to try. Sadly, it was not the Yam Season during my trip. i didn't get to try the Yam Egg Tarts.
Besides serving hot, you can try to refrigerate the egg tarts for about 5.5 hours. It turns differently. I had 2 kept in the fridge and treated them as my breakfast. My Oh My! They were completely different. They changed into creamy-liked egg custard. Just like those creams in the cream puff.

And, I da-bao-ed a dozen of egg tarts and had them flied back (to KL) with me for my family. They loved them too!

ShenZhen09 Day 3 Brunch: Dim Sum @ 广食访
Continue from ShenZhen09 Day 2 Dinner: 面点王@Book City
.
On the third day of my stay, finally get to have dim sum. I have been craving for dim sum since the weeks and the months before coming to Shen Zhen. This dim sum place is quite far away from where housing area I stayed. Sis and I walked for about 30 mins to this restaurant called 广食访。Sorry for no pics on this building as it was raining cat and dog all day. I wasn’t able to capture photos with umbrella and handbags on.
This place was quite a full house even though it was already 12 noon. I learnt that a lot of people travelled from Hong Kong to Shen Zhen during the weekend --- to shop, to dine, to Yum Cha and even buying vege and stuff from the market! Sis said it is super convenient for them to travel up by the metro --- pass border, buy tickets, step into the metro and zooooom. And reach within 30 mins.
Back to 广食访, the service was rather slow and bad. Not enough staff and too many customers I guess. Do hope they will improve.
The Portuguese egg tarts that served were silky smooth in the egg centre and the puff pastry shells were crispy. Oh yum, I had not have such a good Portuguese’s egg tarts. Please don’t mention those from the kings, gonna delete it from my list. Of course, this is still not the best Portuguese egg tarts I had in Shen Zhen. There is another one I wish to intro on my next post which can simply melts ones heart.
糯米鸡 glutinous rice that served piping hot. They were wrapped with the big piece of lotus leaves before sending off to steam. The glutinous rice was real soft and filled with the scent of lotus leaves.
A bowl of hot porridge that warm my tummy in this cold weather. Speaking of weather, the weather was unstable although it was already summer. Cold and rainy all day. Sigh… which was quite inconvenient for sightseeing
Stirred fried Lo Bak Gou in XO sauce which was full with wok hei. Hmmm, I still find the one from canton-i is the best.
韭菜饺 Jiu-Cai-Jiao which is another must-order item. It was actually the dumplings that very much similar to the Japanese Gyoza. Difference: the centre core which was filled up with plentiful of leek and minced meat in Jiu-Cai-Jiao and wrapped up prettily into the shape required.
Last but not least, a plate of vege --- the required fibres for body.

My ‘Dairy’ need
Still afraid of the dairy products that produced from China after the Melamine cases that outbreak suddenly? Well, I am not. In fact, I feel the milk products are quite good. Ever since the melamine cases happened, the authorities have imposed stricter requirements and lab tests on them dairy products to ensure that the main ingredients and compositions are at the safety level.
I have a daily habit. I need to have a glass of milk or at least 250ml of milk every morning.
Hence, sis bought a carton (16 packs) of UHT milk to fulfill my ‘dairy’ needs. 蒙牛 Meng-Niu, brand of this milk is one of the famous brand.
The milk never lost its original taste. It tasted so Mooooooooo…
