Balik kampung, la-la-la balik kampung…
Last Raya break, W-E followed Citygal back to her lovely homeland – Ipoh!
We departed at 8am ++ but it took us few hoursss to reach Ipoh… because of the balik kampung crowds!!!
.
.
1. Nam Heong
.
As soon as we dropped our luggage, we headed to Nam Heong for the Ipoh Old Town White Coffee.
.
.
Nam Heong’s White Coffee, the fragrant and aromatic one with slightly acidic taste is priced at only RM 1.50
.
.
Pastries were the next thing to be filled into the stomach. Hot piping egg tarts with smooth and silky wobbly egg-ie centre and crispy flaky puff pastry is one of the must try-s. Besides that, Yam Dumpling (Wu Kok) and Barbecued Pork Pastry (Char Siew Sou) were great too! Never miss out all these
.
.
Crispy Apam Balik from one of the stalls, hmmm, tasted so-so.
.
.
Char Kuey Teow was a satisfactory.
.
Kedai Makan Nam Heong

2. Old fashioned Toys and Snacks shop
.
.
Just a few steps away from Nam Heong, we found this shop selling old fashioned toys and snacks. The toys and snacks reminded me of my elementary years where I tried hard to save up a fortune for them.
.
.
3. Kwong Heng – Satay Babi, CheeCheongFun and Cuttlefish with kangkang
.
Pork Satays were the main thing for us to be here. I am quite sure we can’t find skewered pork here in KL. It’s kind of to dine in here where satays were placed down once we were seated and were refilled too if you have finished them. Just Eat as many as you want and they won’t charge you for the unfinished satays.
.
.
Ipoh style CheeCheongFun was silky smooth. Mushroom sauce was added to flavour the
CheeCheongFun and finally sprinkled with fried shallots and yummy pork skin.
.
.
Cuttlefish with Kangkung is another must-order! The kangkung was super crunchy and juicy!!! Unlike those we got here.
.
.
.
4. Sightseeing at Sam Poh Tong
.
After filling our stomach, it’s time for a short walk and sightseeing.
.
The Guys were having their fun time.
.
.
5. Kheng Lim Salted Baked Chicken.
.
What’s Ipoh famous for??? Salted Baked Chicken!!!
.
And it’s only RM 16 for a whole chicken, fragrant with herbs dong guai and gei zi.
.
.
.
6. Onn Kee Tauge Ayam aka Nga Choi Gai 芽菜鸡
.
Another Ipoh’s famous!!! The hor fun, ngai choi and chicken!!!
.
.
Fat, juicy and crunchy bean sprouts. How I wish I could have these everyday!!!
.
.
Smooth poached chicken with large amount of soy sauce.
.
.

7. pomelos and pastries
.
We spotted a shop selling pomelos and cute pastries. Located just right opposite at Lou Wong Restaurant (another place selling Nga Choi Gai).
.
.
.
8. Kafe Sun Yun Wah – Chilling out session for Snow Beer
.
.
I tasted Ice blended beer…
.
.
Of course, we never forget about our friends, Sugar Bean who was in Cardiff at that time. They were always with us; the kitties during the trip.
.

.
This is the end for Day 1, stay Tune for Day 2!!!
