Sakura @ Jalan Imbi, Kuala Lumpur

Dining in Sakura Restaurant winded me back to my parents' years.
About 25 years ago, they used to have their dates here.
Hands in Hands, walked in and dined.
Had plates of Nasi Lemak at RM 4 (per plate).
Back to their old days, it was considered a splurge for them...

Sakura, established since 1977, for famous local cuisine; needs no further introduction, has been a landmark and touristy spot too for the foreigners.

Nasi Lemak (RM 14.80) with coconut steamed rice, served with chicken curry, sambal ikan bilis, floss, hard-boiled egg, acar, and fresh cucumber. THe chicken curry was good and sambal was very spicy; but the coconut steamed rice was slightly not that 'lemak; (a little bit lack of the coconut milky fragrant).

Nasi Bojari (RM 23) was served with assam prawns, chicken/beef rendang and a huge deep fried chicken drumstick. But they said this wasn't as good as the one from Kwan's.

Char Kuey Teow was the flat rice noodles stir-fried with prawns, egg and bean sprouts. Ahhh, it was a super huge serving that can feed 2 pax. However, it was too bland that We had to add in some soy sauce to give taste.

Cendol, the complimentary dessert if you ordered Nasi Bojari. A huge bowl with lots of green cendols, red beans, shaved ice and loaded with thick coconut milk. The best thing was, we can pour in the fragrant gula Melaka as much as we want. Something we love :)

Verdict: if comparisons are made between Sakura and Madam Kwan's, I still find Madam Kwan's is doing way much better than Sakura. Nasi Lemak from Madam Kwan's is way much fragrant and more 'lemak' as compared to this. While the otheres from Madam Kwan's are up to their high standards. I brought my parents to Madam Kwan's (at KLCC) last weekend; they fancied the Char Kuey Teow and Nasi Lemak a lot. They claimed that the Char Kuey Teow was fragrant and less oily; while the Nasi Lemak was aromatic in the thick coconut milk.

Well, guess Madam Kwan's can be their dating venue after that 25 years :)

Anyway, comparisons made are totally based on my personal view.

YES! My parents always mention this place when it comes to nasi lemak back in those days.
Rather sturdy to be standing strong after so long.

You know why the Nasi Bojari is not as good as Madam Kwan's? Because Madam Kwans current owner is the one of the founder of Sakura, which she provided the recipe for the food. She left sold Sakura and started Madam Kwan.
